Site information

Who writes these pages, how to reach them, and how corrections are handled.

Publisher

This site is written and published by a private individual, in a personal and non-professional capacity. There is no company behind it, nothing is sold here, and no service is offered.

Contact

Corrections, disagreements and additions are welcome at [email protected]. A correction that is accepted is added, dated, at the foot of the entry concerned.

What these pages are

A working notebook about licensing moving images. Entries describe general practice in the footage and archive trade as it stood on the day they were written. They are not legal advice, and they do not describe the terms of any particular supplier. Contracts differ, rules change, and the wording in front of you always takes precedence over anything written here.

Statements about copyright refer to United States law unless another country is named. Rights in the same film can differ from one country to the next.

Names of organisations

Archives, libraries and agencies are named so that a reader can find them. All trade marks and names belong to their respective owners, and no relationship of any kind is implied by the mention.

Corrections and dating

Entries are not rewritten in place. When something turns out to be wrong or out of date, a dated line is added under the entry saying what changed. The original text stays, because an undated correction is indistinguishable from an error.

Dates are written day, month, year throughout, and every date on the site also carries a machine readable form in the page source.

Technical note

These pages are plain static files. They set no cookies, run no scripts, load no fonts or images from third-party servers, and carry no analytics or advertising. Nothing is collected from readers, because there is nothing here capable of collecting it.

Text and images

The text of this site is written for it. It may be quoted with a link back. The illustrations are made for the pages they appear on.
